The Bosphorus

The ferries cross from East to West,
Upon the ocean’s rolling breast.
The seagulls follow in the wake,
For any scraps that they can take.

Two continents look face to face,
Across this narrow, rushing space.
The water holds the ancient trade,
Where empires rose and empires fade.
