Rejection Injection

I swallowed the bitter pill of my past,
A poison that held me chained and fast.
Each dose of rejection, a stab in my soul.
Addiction’s cruel grip, a dark endless hole.

Homeless and wandering for five years or more,
Sleeping on sidewalks behind every door.
A single widowed woman alone in the night.
Used and discarded, I’d vanish from sight.

Put out or get out, those words cut me like knives.
I was passed around like a dirty secret through desperate lives.
Too high to get help, too lost to be found.
My cries of salvation just drowned by the sound.

Fifteen years a crackhead, that label was mine.
Chasing a feeling and losing all track of time.
But May marked nine years and nine years clean.
Oh God, what a victory that is for me.

With severe ADHD, my mind raced ahead.
Society’s rejection filled my spirit with dread.
So I turned to Crystal. She welcomed me in.
No judgment, just numbness, no hope to begin.

No family to call, barely a friend.
Felt like no one would care if I break or bend.
So I’d pick up that point, shoot it straight to my vein.
God, that was madness, a runaway train.

But from the ashes, a whisper took flight.
A flicker of hope in the dead of the night.
I’m a work in progress. My soul reborn.
And from the shattered pieces, my new sober life is sworn.

The scars that I carry, they tell an awful tale.
Of all the battles, I felt very hard when I felt very frail.
The tears at once felt like storms in the rain.
Now they just water the roots of my healing again.

I’m not just a victim. I’m growing, I’m no longer lost in the pain.
I’m rising, I’m growing, I’m breaking the chain.
Each step, a new victory. Each breath, a new song.
In the heart of rejection, I found where I belong.

So please cheer for this, for this fighter who stumbles and stands,
Who turns her broken dreams into hopeful plans.
I’m still unfinished, a canvas in flight,
But God and I are painting my future with colors so bright.

Rejection, injection, we’re so very bitter and cold,
But from it, a warriors story is told.
