YOUR TOUCH

My lips still tremble as the four letters
of your name leave them; careless, uncertain.
Syllables that once made up your voice,
once my favorite sound,
now something I dare to near.
Thinking of you in the wake I find myself in,
I seize through a new heart attack each day.
Life within the hollow of heartbreak is the life
I now have to breathe and learn to carry.
Some days, the ache is so heavy I cannot feel my fingertips.
Others, I float — like I have forgotten your touch entirely.
